The idea behind Comcero

What do you do when you need someone to "replace my leaded windows", "build a new patio" or "tarmac my drive"? When Comcero founder, Bal Mattu, had needs for all of these services whilst renovating his home, like everyone else, he used the existing tools such as Yell.com, Yellow Pages, recommendations, local directories and even Google searches; but, like everyone else, struggled to find quality, dependable, appropriate suppliers.

Bal realised that businesses or trades people i.e. Sellers he was struggling to find faced the same problem - finding him.

This led Bal to conclude that, whilst the web has revolutionised the way we 'Google' for information and don't give buying goods on-line so much as a second thought, buying services is an entirely different matter. Services are rarely selected or acquired on-line; they are merely sourced, much in the same way as we'd source a service in, say, the 'Yellow Pages'.

As a serial entrepreneur, Bal's response in November 2007, was to start the Comcero project with the aim to create an on-line marketplace where Buyers and Sellers could trade services confidently. Where users can be an individual, school, Small Medium Enterprise (SME) or a specialist such as an Estate Agent.

Comcero is, quite simply, the future for the way we locate, buy and sell, and then manage the fulfilment of a service. A universal marketplace where Buyers can take control of their job needs - and Sellers take control of their business. And using Comcero is so straightforward, simple and free for all.

There are two ways to use Comcero, to help with all job needs that are short or long running, simple or complex:

  • Comcero Classic - includes shortlisting and relationship management tools.
  • Comcero Express - fast track method to answer all small and emergency service needs.

Comcero is packed with easy-to-use templates designed to help Buyers and Sellers to manage and control how they work with each other. In addition, Comcero provides important capabilities such as:

  • Privacy
    Comcero will only reveal the contact details of a Buyer or Seller when they are ready. For example, in Comcero Classic both Buyer and Seller details are only swapped once a Seller accepts a shortlist invitation from a Buyer. Until this point the identities of both are anonymous.
  • Storage
    Comcero will allow Buyers to access their 'buy transactions' for up to six months after completion. For Sellers, Comcero allows them to access their transactions for up to twelve months after completion.
  • Auditing
    An audit trail of all activity on Comcero is captured including messages, documents, dates, etc. This information can be used to remind users how they did things or to resolve disputes. For Sellers, it will be a way to record how they are doing business and for assessing performance.
  • Mediation (coming)
    There is a specific strategy to handle abuse by Buyers, Sellers and disputes between each party. Users will be encouraged to report problems, offensive content and any policy breaches to Comcero.

Why Buyers come to Comcero

Just imagine: there's no need to go rummaging around in directories or hunting on-line for suppliers who might or might not fit the bill. No need to ring round half a dozen or more potential suppliers, leaving messages, waiting for replies. Once you've settled on a shortlist and the Sellers have accepted your shortlist request, contact details are revealed. Until this point the identities of a Buyer and Seller are anonymous.

Our simple-to-use relationship management tools allow you to probe further, store letters and proposals, and gauge which Seller best fits the bill. And, with comprehensive rating and feedback systems in place, you'll be able to see, at a glance, just how well the Seller has performed in the past, giving you a much appreciated degree of comfort and confidence in your purchasing decision. So, Comcero Sellers are not just willing - at a glance you can see whether they're trustworthy too.

Last, but not least, when the service has been provided and the transaction is complete, you have all the reassurance of knowing an audit trail exists which documents the entire relationship between Buyer and Seller. A record of every piece of information exchanged and every on-line dialogue that's taken place. This brings a new level of accountability and transparency to every Buyer and Seller relationship.
